How to Use The Metro Dems Web Site
Most of you are probably experienced web users -- some of you may even have your own blogs or web sites. So, we won't cover the basics of browsing and such. There are, however, a few features of the site that we thought you might want to know about up front, so you can get the most value out of the site.
Members versus Viewers
If you are a paid-up member of the club, you'll have an account on this site. When your account is created, you'll get an email with your login information. To use the member-only parts of the site, you'll need to click the Login link at the bottom and provide your user name and password.
Members can do the following things that non-members cannot:
- Subscribe to a page (see below).
- Leave a comment on a blog post.
- Leave a comment in the MDC Forum.
- Start a topic in the Forum.
Subscribing to a Page
If you have a member account, once you have logged in to the site, you will see a Subscribe link in the upper right corner of every page. Click this link to subscribe to email updates for this page within the site. Whenever the page changes, you'll get an email telling you it has changed. This is a great way to keep up with parts of the site that interest you.
Subscribing to the RSS Feed
If you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to the RSS feeds for the Metro Dem blog. There are two RSS feeds, one for blog entries and one for comments on those entries. (And if you don't know anything about RSS, there is a good introduction here.)
The MDC Forum
This is a place for all members to sound off, ask questions, start flame wars, ask for help -- whatever you want to use it for! We hope that it will become a place for good discussions. Just remember to act like grown-ups, though (or at least like kindergarteners who've had their juice box and naptime) -- posts that are over the line may be removed by the site staff. Otherwise, have at it!
Feedback Form
Whether you are a member or not, you can always use the Feedback form. Just fill in the fields and submit. You can give feedback on a meeting, on the site, on anything you want. Your feedback will be emailed to the site admin crew, and you'll get a reply from one of them in a few days.
